Churches Partnering with Uganda Christian University and the Church of Uganda (Anglican)
Being Anglican is more than a way of worship – it means you are part of a (large) family made up of more than 80 million people worldwide in churches in over 165 countries. The Province of Uganda is home to more than 13 million of those Anglican family members (only Nigeria houses more).
Uganda Christian University Partners is inviting Anglican Churches in North America to learn more about their place within the Anglican Communion and grow in relationship with their extended family in Uganda by partnering with Uganda Christian University (UCU) and the Church of Uganda.
Uganda Christian University is an institution of the Church of Uganda and is home to the historic Bishop Tucker School of Divinity and Theology (founded in 1913). Clergy and clergy candidates have been sent to UCU from all 37 Dioceses in Uganda, from many other African countries, and from the United States and Ireland. The Bishop Tucker School has also trained many bishops and Archbishops, including some who have come to UCU to advance their education while serving as bishop!
The church and its clergy play important roles in local communities. In rural areas, the clergy are often the most highly educated individuals and are relied on to provide education, health information, business acumen, as well as spiritual guidance. In urban areas, well-educated clergy are better able to preach to and disciple their educated congregations. UCU also educates many clergy in affiliated fields such as development studies, community health, social work, and business that they can take back to their communities and Diocese to make a difference.
We invite churches to partner with UCU and the Church of Uganda. To learn more contact JoEllyn Fountain at churchpartnerships@ugandapartners.org
